Rosedale Ride

I am not beyond peddling the Rosedale Ride on Vivian's blog. It's coming up this Saturday, Mar 29.

Register online before midnight tonight for $25 or pay $30 at the ride. You'll feel better - helping out the kids and getting your ass on a bike seat. Thanks to Amanda, Gordon, The Croleys (I assume - they are always there in full force), Mark, Karen, Tim, and others who have signed up.

Brandon - happy baptism. Sorry to miss it, but I'm sending our best people over to be with you.

St. Patrick's Day

This post is obviously late - St. Patrick's Day was a few days back.

Measuring life by what you do each year for St. Pats is an interesting way to keep score.

In 2006, Jo went to Savannah to meet up with her college friends and play power-hour for three straight days. Serious business - no brain cells were spared. I met Greta and Deanna at Opal's at about 3pm and we steadily imbibed till closing.

In 2007, Alu and Michelle came down to meet Vivian. We were probably unsociable and unsavory - a fact of living with a month old baby.

This year, Vivian played around with her new computer (it's a OLPC - One Laptop Per Child computer - back in December, we paid for two - one to be sent to some third world family - probably in Bangalore, and the other for Vivian). The computer arrived the night before. It's very green and matched her lovely St. Pats day dress. My girl may grow up to be a geek!

While I was Asleep at the Blog

I have been asleep at the blog. Sorry. The City was trying to rezone the plot on which Upper Crust Bakery resides, so they could encourage developers to build a three story Vertical Mixed Use (VMU) building. We put together a rag-tag opposition - and it's worked so far. I am doing this for you, kid.

Meanwhile, Vivian learned to walk and run. She loves wandering around - outside in the rain, down the aisles of a store, on the trail at Edwards Park. She's a walker.

And she loves sugar - specially if it's mixed with good quality milk fat and then churned and chilled. Amy's white chocolate ice cream and Mandola's chocolate hazelnut gelato are the best.

And she's learned to throw a good fit. She flops down on her butt. Then she screams and arches her back and throws herself to the floor - with tears streaming down her cheeks. Very dramatic. Her best fit to date was when she ran out of white chocolate and chocolate chip cookie shake at Amy's. We got a few stares from concerned onlookers.

Here are three pictures before, during and after the ice cream.

Vivian has a regular sitter - one evening a week, she ditches her parents and parties with Ana. During that time, we try to discover what it's like to eat out without quickly shoveling food into our faces while nodding at people who are chatting with Vivian. I hear that there may be a movie date or two in the near future.

Vivian had her first haircut. Grandma took the scissors to her bangs. A bit traumatic for Mom, but now we are all used to it. She looks so grown-up.

And Vivian played Holi (look at the post from Mar 07 2007 "Simran Didi" for a note on last year's holi celebrations). This year, we went full throttle with toxic colors and water balloons and all. Pia was visiting Simran for her spring break and added to the festivities. The sight of six of us flinging red dye and water balloons at each other may have Jeanne's neighbors wondering. Here's a few pictures:

And, here's a slide show.

Happy Holi. Navroz Mubarak. Happy Easter.

Weanie Babies

Vivian is one year and one month and one week old.

Three days ago, instead of the usual go at the boobs, Jo gave her a nice glass of chilled Horizon organic whole milk when Vivian woke up. And she took it. Today, we went one step further. Daddy handed Vivian a glass of milk, while Mommy slept in for another half hour. Mom and Vivian are both fully weaned!
