Zoo

Jo has a ritual annual punishment for herself during spring break. She teams up with Laura and they drag the kids to San Antonio Zoo. Last year (or was it the year before), the crowd was so great that traffic was backed up for a few miles on the I-35 zoo exit. This year we started early and were at the zoo by 8:30am on Saturday. The zoo opens at 9am. Early enough. Along with a few hundred thousand other early birds.

But Jo had another trick up her sleve. We got family memberships using a Groupon (our first successful usage). So we skirted the crowds at the main gates and got in easily enough.

The kids had a great time at the zoo. They saw monkeys, parrots, condors,  anacondas, lions, tigers, zebras, rhinos, jaguars, cheetas, okapis, boars, elephants, flamingos, crocs, and more. But the most fun they had was at the fake beach. Laura remembered to bring a swim diaper and swim shirt for Evan (we forgot) - which is why the poor child is dressed in a pink top. But he didn't care. It was a coolish day and the water wasn't warm either. Jo and I were deciding whether we wanted to put Evan in the water when he took matters in his own hands and made a bee-line for the water. Hailey tried to make a dent on a rock with her head and still remained her serene self. Brandon as always played so well with Vivian.

The next day when Uncle Alu asked Vivian if she had fun at the zoo, she nodded her head vigorously. Then he asked what animals she had seen. Vivian scratched her head and thought for several seconds. Then she said "a hairy pig". That boar must have really made an impression.
