I'm getting my blog caught up. Several weeks ago on the way back from Sweden, the kids and I spent a few days with Aunt Michelle and Uncle Alu. As usual they had a bunch of the funnest things planned.
The kids went to a talk by an Audubon Society naturalist who had two raptors - one of the smallest - a very chatty American Kestrel, and one of the largest - a stately horned owl. The kids learned all about the birds, like why are owls silent (it's in the feathers - comb like leading edges), and can birds smell (most can't, so you can pick up an egg or a chick and put it back in the nest - the Mama bird isn't going to smell you and shove the egg/bird off the nest to it's death).
The Fourth Annual Aunt Michelle's Scavenger hunt was a huge success - a multi-day event this year. They ran around the huge yard looking at their map and searching for clues and stuff and got so much loot we had to mail it back to ourselves in Austin. Evan's wireless remote controlled fart machine was a runaway hit - and it continues to be a source of much fun.

The kids made soap with dyes and fragrances and pure organic glycerine. They helped Aunt Michelle make an amazing batch of cinnamon rolls from scratch. They ate large quantities of bacon sandwiches and take-away Chinese dinner and of course ice cream from Brickley's. Evan read a couple of pages from Michelle's The Law of Higher Education and Vivian read the beginning of Isaacson's Steve Jobs for no apparent reason
And they had enough time left over for a few trips to the beach. The water was still pretty cold, so one time they had fun jumping off the life guard towers on to the cool sand.
Disturbingly, one day while doodling, Evan produced this picture. He's probably never seen the Donald on TV and definitely not his show.
