All The Cousins

On Christmas Eve we celebrated one round of Carol's birthday. At least two kids would have preferred a retake but this is the only photo I managed to grab of Carol with all her thirteen grandchildren, so here it is.

And on Christmas morning, here they are. All thirteen by themselves. Because this doesn't happen very often (this is the first time), I'll go ahead and label them: (from L to R) Bela, Ava, Grace, Evan, Vivian, Peyton, Logan, Cade, Kai, Quinn, Gage, Zach, and Devyn. There's no need to list parentage because you can tell who belongs to whom.

They played like they have been friends all their lives. The five acres helped. Most of the time we didn't see much of the kids at all. Evan scraped his face off again surfing down the driveway. But otherwise there was very little fuss and mostly a lot of running around in the woods and hanging around under trees away from adults. I finished my fence from hell on Christmas morning and it was immediately  tested for robustness. If I hadn't put in a gate at all nobody would have noticed because they jumped the fence every time.

Like my fence, we grown-ups made it through the holidays too. After Christmas Erick and Aaron and their families dodged tornadoes in the east and blizzards in the west and made it back to their respective homes safely. We returned to the white wooden house and probably unconsciously kept away from each other for the first twenty four hours. Except poor Crazy who had spent three days alone and wanted all the company she could get.
