Amy told Jo about the Christmas tree farm at Elgin. So when Saturday morning arrived, we ate a quick Taco Shack breakfast and headed off to Elgin.
At the tree farm Vivian and I checked out the horse, donkey, pig, goats, sheep, alpaca, and roosters with huge feathery feet while we waited our turn in the tractor trailer. Vivian climbed a haystack and horsed around a bit.
The tractor rolled around and Jo and Evan and Vivian and I hopped in. It dropped us off in a field of shortish looking Christmas trees - about half of them were already in other people's homes. We walked around for 15 minutes and stopped at four trees which Jo and Vivian shot down for various reasons. Finally we found one that everyone approved. It took me a minute to saw it down and we dragged it to the edge of the field where another tractor picked us up. Pretty soon we had it tied to the top of the car and we were headed back. We kept the moon-roof open so Evan could keep an eye on the tree (he bent over sideways in his car seat and didn't take his eyes off the tree). Back at home we stuffed the tree into the stand and dragged it to a corner of the living room. When Jo put the topper on the tree it was an inch short of the ceiling. Vivian and Jo decorated the tree and Vivian said "now that is teamwork!"
