It took us nine months to cover forty thousand miles and return to Austin. I've been working hard to beat that - one month and thirty two thousand miles. Started June 7, ending July 8. Austin - Tahiti - Austin. Austin - Hyderabad - Austin. Austin - Falls City, Nebraska - Austin.
It's easy for us to forget that the four of us spend almost every waking moment together - and lots of sleeping ones too. So it is understandable that the kids, especially Vivian, was not OK with me rushing off to India to see my Dad for a week. But plenty of skyping and a packed fun schedule back home made it easier for her. And I got the best welcome hugs from the kids when I got back to Austin from India. That was Friday - after flying for more than twenty four hours - including the grueling 17 hour flight from Doha to Houston on Qatar Airlines. On Sunday we packed up the car and left for Nebraska.
We are in a cabin overlooking a lake. The cousins and Grandma are camping at another lake - Stanton Lake. Yesterday we saw fireworks in Falls City. We were about 400 yards away from where they were being set off. The kids played in the playground of the school where Jo went to kindergarten while we sat around on the school grounds and watched the fireworks. A very relaxed affair. Today we mostly sat around under huge oak and maple trees and tried not to move very much because it is so darned hot. The kids ran around in sweaty groups and tried to fish. The good life.
