Home again

We drove for 13 hours from Falls City and arrived in Austin at about 1130pm last night. There were some hellacious thunder storms in southers Kansas, Oklahoma and just south of Fort Worth. We grabbed a hot meal at the Cracker Barrel in Temple 10 minutes before they closed for the night. And in the end we almost ran out of gas 8 miles from home and practically coasted to the gas station on Mopac and Duval and filled 17.001 gallons of gas in a 17 gallon tank.

Vivian and Evan were pretty good during the long drive partly because they knew we were heading home. Evan would say "I want get out" and we'd say we'll be home soon and he'd settle back in. And he'd check after every stop. "What a happen-e?" "Where we going?"

This morning we started back to normality with a vengeance. Kids were back in summer school by 9am. We were at the gym. Then Jo went to Central Market. This afternoon, Evan protested a bit and then he took his nap. Vivian tied her three favorite dolls (Tiger, Big Dolly, Bear) to herself (like in a baby sling) and sat down to watch a documentary about Russian girls learning to be ballerinas. We went to Rosedale school park this evening and Vivian rode her bike there and back. And Crazy is screaming at us every chance she gets - she's got to be the loudest cat ever.

Traveling is great. Being back home is sweet.
