Turtles and Ducks

This morning before our house guests were up we took some bread and went down to Barton Creek to feed the turtles and fishes and ducks and birds. Evan ended the proceedings abruptly when he reached into the bag and grabbed all the bread and threw it into the creek. Vivian shrieked. The waters roiled with feeding seething biomass. "Why?" I asked him.

"Because I wanted to." Not very explanatory. But fair enough.

Yesterday or the day before we were on the other side of Town Lake from Barton Creek at sunset. A duck hopped out of the water and started following us like a dog. He even wagged his tail. Vivian and Evan were just as fascinated with him as he was with them. Vivian named him Old Red Nose and wanted to be his friend. Evan wanted to eat him.
