Two thousand and twelve has been another eventful and amazing year. To quote a famous person, it went gradually then suddenly.
We finished our year of traveling. New year's eve in Hyderabad. Two trips to Goa. A fun time in Hong Kong. Bliss in Hawaii. Sailing in Tahiti. Nebraska. The east coast. And back in Austin with a couple of days to spare before Vivian started kindergarten. What did I like most about traveling? To see Vivian and Evan open their minds a little bit more each time they encountered something new. To meet old friends. And to return home.
Back in Austin Evan started at Grace and Vivian at Magellan. It was a novel feeling for Jo and me to have both kids at school. Evan takes after Vivian and loves school. Grace started about two weeks after Magellan and for those mornings he cried every day when we dropped Vivian off at her school and he didn't get to go. And like Vivian when she was his age, he has skillfully hidden his evil side from his teachers and they adore him. Meanwhile, Vivian had prepped us on what to expect at her new school. Back in India when she was finishing her pre-school her parents had been summoned to meet her teachers. She learns everything. And then she uses the full force of her charm and wit to disrupt the classroom. Being in a Spanish immersion school didn't slow her down uno bit.
About the time Evan started school I went and got my dad from India. Just like that he woke up one morning and found himself in Austin. Most days Jo and Vivian count the joys of living with three generations of Chatterjee men. And we count our blessings.
A few years ago I started summarizing the whole year in one line. Back then there was no twitter but here goes, with lots of characters to spare: "2012 - We traveled. We returned. With Grandpa."
A very merry Christmas and happy new year
- Amar (Grandpa), Evan, Vivian, Jo & me
