We ended up with four days open days after Amsterdam. Jo voted for Paris and won.
A few minutes before our train from Amsterdam pulled into Paris Nord Evan finally fell asleep. Into a deep slumber. Jo carried him all the way down the platform. And occasionally laid him down on the duffel bag where he lay flopped like a partially deflated blow-up doll. And she carried him into the bowels of Paris Metro (while I did this complicated dance with the automatic doors and our luggage). Evan slept till we boarded our metro and then he was instantly awake and fully engaged.
We checked into our vacation rental in Monmarte and then left for the Eiffel Tower. But the tricky Parisians had closed off a section of the metro just before the Eiffel Tower and left a note in English at the metro station. We gave up and surfaced in front of the Notre Dame. By this time Vivian was tired (it was past 9pm) and disappointed (she was really excited about going to see the Eiffel Tower). We ate dinner at a cafe right there at the corner of Quai Saint-Michel while a clown entertained the crowds and us. Then we went back home and slept with the windows open - it was a hot night and our first night in Paris.
