On our drive through the town of Borgarnes in western Iceland we stopped at a museum. It had an exhibit for children in Iceland over the last 100 years. There were lovely huge photos and behind some of the photos the children could find "secret" cabinets with artifacts from that period. The museum is well hidden. We got there 15 minutes before closing. But we paid and went in anyway.
The only person working at the museum was this young lady pictured in the photos below. She showed Vivian and Evan how the kids back then played with bones and horns and shells and a lot of imagination. We finally forced ourselves to leave well after closing time though she wasn't done. There was a grumpy woman waiting in a car outside. We think it was her mother. She wasn't happy that her daughter was working late and making her wait.
Here's a photo of ice being cut from a lake in Reykjavik at the turn of the century. Just like the opening sequence in Frozen. This is the same lake that we walked around in the middle of the night when none of us could sleep and it was still light outside and we went to the park.
