Eating in Amsterdam

While we were at Alu's, after a couple of beers he and I had a few laughs about eating danishes in Copenhagen and going dutch in Amsterdam. Har har. Eating in Amsterdam has predictably been better than that :-)

For dinner yesterday we went down a couple of narrow streets from our flat to a little pizza place. The kitchen with it's wood oven was across the street from the restaurant. Neighbors walked by and greeted and hugged the waitresses who constantly crossed the street to serve customers on both sides. Because the sidewalks are narrow and the demand is usually for a table for two, the tables are tiny and it would be hard to put plates for four on one table. So the kids have been having fun eating dinner at their own table while Jo and I sit t ours.

The kids drank a lemonade that bears little resemblance to its American cousin. Over here it's a) a carbonated drink, b) the brand name won't work back home, and  c) made from Sicilian lemons. Yes Karen, those Sicilians.

There is a lot of dessert being consumed around here and not just by the locals. We visited a pancake place cross the canal from our flat for lunch the other day. This is Evan in the before picture. He was covered in powdered sugar by the time he finished.

And here Evan is sitting on a canal dock finishing his ice cream, probably later that same day.

Our host claimed that the best apple pie in Amsterdam was one block up Prinsengracht from us. We decided to test that hypothesis one evening. This is the view from across the street.

And this is two happy kids after snarfing down a great apple pie.

Should I mention that I buy FeverTree at Central Market. Their tonic water is great for G&Ts
