Vivian is easily scared. but I think her older cousins are taking care of the problem by desensitizing her with a flood of gore and scare. Contrast the two following incidents.
Two weekends ago she came crawling out of bed because she was scared at night. Devyn had told her a story about a haunted pink house where she was trapped and had to break out by busting a window. In the warm safe embrace of my arms Vivian told me that she didn't know what haunted meant but that it sounded scary. I walked her back to bed and she fell asleep.
This weekend after spending time with her cousins, Vivian said "Grandma - I have a story for you. There was this girl who had a doll. She was told not to paint the doll's nails red. But she did. And then she went four blocks away and burried the doll with the red painted nails. The doll got out and was soon three blocks away. Then she was two blocks away. Then she was one block away. Then she was in the house. Then she was in the kitchen. Then the doll grabbed a kitchen knife. Then chop! Off went the little girl's head. The mother walked into the kitchen to ask if the girl wanted some lunch. Instead she saw the little girl's head".
Grandma was taken aback. But no nightmares or scary dreams.
