Imagination

The other day Evan had a pajama day at school. He decided to wear his camouflage long underwear instead and had me take a photo before school in the bushes outside our front door. "Dad - does this really make me invisible in the trees?" I showed his the photo and he thought that if he painted his face and hands in camou he would indeed be invisible.

Evan's imagination is running rampant these days. On the day of the Texas primary, we were having a discussion on politics.

Evan: "I'm going to vote for the Donald"
Me: "Why?"
Evan: "Because he's like me"
Vivian: "Well - it's a good thing you are too young to vote"

Evan's imagination, already fertile, has been boosted by being a part of an after-school Destination Imagination group this semester. Six kids, kinder and younger came up with their own play, sets and costumes. Tad - the parent who facilitated the group, provided the materials and made sure no one hot glued or stapled their fingers together (but being an ER doctor she could have handled that as well). This Saturday they had their competition. The kids did really well and had a blast doing it. Evan was a bird. He ran around saying "Tweet tweet" and doing a ridiculously funny dance. They ended the play eating jumbo marshmallows and saying "Friends help friends". Here he is in a thoughtful moment before the action starts. And then the dance.
