Today we took the loot that Vivian got from her friends and donated it to Austin Pets Alive (a no-kill shelter in Austin). We were happy Vivian chose this path without us having to convince her. As Jo explained, her friends' donations would now keep pets alive. Instead of just being new lumps of plastic laying around the house that she didn't really want or need.
Some of Vivian's friends told their parents that they want to do this too. And then there was this sweet girl who obviously disagreed. She bought Vivian a regular birthday gift and had this to say in her card!
The staff at Austin Pets Alive were thrilled. They took Evan and Vivian on a tour. The kids got to pet some super cute kittens and look at the dogs. When we got back to the car:
Vivian: "Daddy - I want a kitten"
Me: "We have a cat - and you don't do much to take care of her"
Vivian: "But I want a kitten because they are so cute"
Me: "And what will you do when the kitten becomes a cat and isn't so cute"
Vivian: "Give it away...?"
Carol piped up at this point: "You used to be cute when you were little"
Me: "And now we are thinking of giving you away"
